Zinc and Plywood Floating Shelving and Radiator Cover, North West London
This bespoke unit was made in FSC birch plywood with a zinc faced removable radiator cover. The challenge here was to have the ply grain running round the whole perimeter seamlessly and lead to some very intricate CNC'd joinery where four sections of wood met and joined together. A big consideration was the fact zinc is one of the metals that expands and contracts the most, so using it as a radiator cover is not the best idea. We ended up using thicker zinc and tacking it onto the face rather than laminating, so that the cover wouldn’t buckle and distort with the temperature changes.
